What This First Season Taught Me

What This First Season Taught Me

“I want to help women think about what they truly want – and build a life around that.”

– Tara Conti Bansal

As Tara closes out the first season of Her Life, Her Practice, Her Way, she reflects on what these conversations have revealed—about the profession, about the women in it, and about herself.

Through powerful themes like mentorship, meaningful work, and the desire to build a life that feels aligned, Tara shares what stood out most from her conversations with female financial advisors throughout this inaugural season.

She also speaks candidly about the quiet struggles many women face—juggling too much, navigating an industry that hasn’t always been built for or welcoming to them, and questioning whether they belong.

This episode is both a reflection and an invitation—to think differently, to create more space, and to trust yourself in building a life and practice that truly fits.

Before taking a break, Tara shares what’s next, what she’s still figuring out, and why she believes this work—and this community—matters more than ever.

Episode Transcript
[00:17] Welcome to Her Life, Her Practice, Her Way A Podcast for and About Female Financial Advisors Tara I’m Tara Conti Bansal and I’ve been a financial planner and life coach for over 20 years.

[00:32] I want this show to share other women financial advisors journeys, struggles and triumphs.

[00:39] I want to highlight the unique and similar ways to enjoying our life and our practice on our own terms.

[00:47] I hope to build a community of like minded, deeply caring and exceptional female advisors who want to help our clients and ourselves live a life that we love.

[00:59] One that is filled with love,

[01:01] learning, connection, meaning and joy.

[01:05] I hope you listen in As I close out this first season of Her Life, Her Practice, Her Way,

[01:12] I’ve been reflecting on what this experience has meant to me.

[01:16] What I keep coming back to is how much I’ve genuinely enjoyed it.

[01:21] These conversations have been fun for me. I look forward to them.

[01:25] But more than that, they’ve been meaningful too.

[01:28] Getting to talk with and really getting to know these incredible women. It’s been such a gift.

[01:34] Almost every episode gave me an idea,

[01:37] something I wanted to try or think about differently.

[01:41] It reinforced this idea I have that you can build a practice that actually fits your life,

[01:48] that you don’t have to follow the shoulds of this industry.

[01:52] That you can listen to yourself and create something that feels true and authentic for you.

[01:58] My conversation with Liz Hand probably impacted me the most.

[02:02] It made me think more deeply about how I want to incorporate coaching into my work and how much I want to move in that direction.

[02:11] There were also some patterns that surprised me.

[02:14] One of the biggest was the role of mentors.

[02:17] So many of the women I spoke with had someone who helped shape their path,

[02:22] sometimes through support and sometimes by showing them what they didn’t want.

[02:27] And that’s something I’d love to explore more in the future.

[02:31] There were also themes that came up again and again.

[02:34] The desire to do meaningful, service driven work,

[02:38] the desire to build something of their own,

[02:41] and at the same time the desire to have a life they love.

[02:46] To be present with their families, to have space,

[02:49] to not feel like they’re constantly running.

[02:53] And if I’m honest, I think many of us are quietly struggling with the same thing.

[02:58] Trying to do too much,

[03:00] living in this constant state of achievement and performance instead of creating the space to think, to rest,

[03:09] to enjoy, and to actually build the life that we want.

[03:13] I love how Angela Dorsey and Amy Leis both regularly carved out time for reflection,

[03:21] introspection,

[03:22] and then being intentional with their time and energy to help them figure things out.

[03:28] I want to do more of that too.

[03:30] There’s also something I’ve been feeling even more strongly after doing this first season of the podcast.

[03:37] I believe women are underrepresented in this field.

[03:40] Part of that is structural,

[03:42] but I think a bigger part of that is belief that many women don’t see this profession as a place for them.

[03:49] Often they think it’s more numbers focused than it really is.

[03:54] And I’ll say this honestly,

[03:56] it can feel hard to be in an industry that has been shaped for so long by an older, male dominated way of doing things.

[04:06] That’s something I feel and something I think we need to keep talking about.

[04:10] At the same time, what I’ve seen through this season is that women bring something incredibly valuable to this work.

[04:18] Connection,

[04:19] care,

[04:20] thoughtfulness,

[04:21] and a deep desire to truly help people.

[04:25] I feel like we go deeper and I want more women to see that and to believe that they belong here.

[04:32] If you’re listening, I want you to know this.

[04:35] You are not alone.

[04:37] You are making a difference and you are enough.

[04:42] Sometimes we all need to hear that.

[04:45] What I hope you felt from this season is a sense of connection and maybe even a little bit of energy or inspiration to think differently about your own life and practice.

[04:57] I want this to be more than just a podcast.

[05:00] I would love for this to become a real community,

[05:03] a space where women support each other, share ideas and grow together.

[05:09] I’m still figuring out what that looks like, but I’m drawn to that and I know it matters.

[05:15] I would truly love to hear from you.

[05:17] Not just feedback,

[05:19] but what stayed with you, what resonated and what you’d like more of.

[05:24] And if you haven’t had a chance to listen to some of the earlier episodes,

[05:28] I hope you’ll go back and give them a listen.

[05:31] There are so many great stories that you might see yourself in.

[05:35] As for what’s next,

[05:37] I’m still figuring that out.

[05:39] I’d like future episodes to be more practical.

[05:43] Not just conversations that feel good,

[05:45] but ones that help you walk away with something you can actually use and make a difference.

[05:51] I also want to lean more into coaching and maybe do some solo episodes and even conversations with multiple women sharing together at the same time.

[06:02] And I’ll be honest, this still feels a bit uncertain for me.

[06:06] I started this not knowing where it would go, and in some ways I still very much feel that way.

[06:13] There are moments where I question if this is worth the time and energy,

[06:17] but I keep coming back to this.

[06:19] I love having these conversations and I believe they matter.

[06:24] I’m also becoming more clear on what I want.

[06:27] I want to do less of the detailed planning work and do more of the bigger picture life centered work.

[06:34] I want to help women think about what they truly want and help them build a life around that.

[06:40] So this season has been just as much about me learning and evolving as it has been about sharing these stories.

[06:48] Thank you for being here. I am truly grateful and thank you for doing this work in the world in your own way.

[06:56] Please know that it matters.

[06:59] I will be taking a short break before the next season to reflect, to think and to be intentional about what I want this podcast to become.

[07:09] Not just for me, but for you.

[07:11] I want to make sure that what I create next is even more meaningful and useful and that it continues to support you in building a life and practice that truly fits you and what you want your own life to become.

[07:26] Thank you for listening to her life, her practice, Her Way.

[07:31] A Podcast for and About Female Financial Advisors.

[07:35] I truly hope you have enjoyed this podcast and got some value from it. If so, I would love to ask a favor of you.

[07:42] Please go to Apple Podcasts or Spotify and rate and review my podcast. This will help me get the word out to other amazing like minded female financial advisors.

[07:54] You can also send it to a friend or two who you think would gain something from listening to it.

[07:59] Until next time, I’m wishing you the very best.
